privacy

this privacy policy applies to Vault.

what data is collected?

none. Vault collects, stores and transmits no personal data. that is not a promise added after the fact, it is the premise the app is designed around.

there is no server

Vault has no operator infrastructure: no server that accepts, relays or stores messages, and no directory that users appear in. there is therefore no place where data about you could accumulate or be requested.

no identity to hand over

no phone number, no email address, no username and no account are required. on first launch your device generates a key pair locally, and your address is derived from it. there is nothing to register.

messages and connection

all messages are encrypted end to end. traffic leaves the device only over tor or a local mesh network, so neither the other side nor an observer of the network sees your ip address.

what stays on the device?

messages, contacts and keys are held encrypted in a local database on your own devices. deleting destroys the key, which makes the data unreadable.

no telemetry

no tracking, no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising. the app does not even contain an http client for such purposes.

changes

if a future version ever processes data, this page will be updated before it does.
